Asthenia is a psychopathological disorder, characterized by rapid fatigue, weakness, sleep disorders, and hypersthesia.
The danger of this pathology is that it is the initial stage in the development of mental disorders and more complex psychopathological processes. It is also not unimportant that asthenia is considered to be a very common pathology, which is found in psychiatric, neurological and general medical practice. Some people with this disease are prescribed

The disease should be distinguished from a sense of fatigue caused by a change of time zones, failure to comply with the regime of work and rest, mental overstrain. Asthenia differs from fatigue caused by these causes in that it does not manifest itself after the patient has rested.

What is it?
Asthenia is an imperceptibly progressive psychopathological disorder.

This pathology means helplessness, morbid state or chronic fatigue, manifested in exhaustion of the body with increased fatigue and with an extreme degree of mood instability, impatience, sleep disturbance, restlessness, weakening of self-control, loss of ability to physical and long-term mental stress, intolerance of bright light, sharp smells and loud sounds.

Often severe asthenia occurs after diseases or on their background, after prolonged stress. Specialists consider asthenia a psychopathological condition and count it among the initial stages of serious neurological and mental illness.

This disorder should be differentiated from the usual weakness or fatigue after an illness. The main distinguishing criterion is the fact that after fatigue and illness, the body independently and gradually returns to normal after adequate sleep and nutrition, a good rest. And asthenia without comprehensive therapy can last for months, and in some cases for years.

The common causes of asthenia include:

Overstrain of higher nervous activity;
lack of intake of nutrients and essential micronutrients;
Pathological disorder of metabolic processes.
In most cases, all of these factors occur at different ages in the life of each individual, but they do not always provoke the development of asthenic disorders.

Nervous system disorders and trauma, as well as somatic diseases, can lead to the development of asthenia. Moreover, the symptoms and signs of asthenia can be seen in the midst of the disease, and before the disease itself or in the recovery period.

Among the diseases that lead to asthenia, experts distinguish several groups:

neurological disorders;
Renal disorders – chronic pyelonephritis, glomerulonephritis;
Gastrointestinal diseases – severe dyspeptic disorders, gastritis, ulcers, pancreatitis, enterocolitis;
Infections – food poisoning, acute respiratory infections, viral hepatitis, tuberculosis;
Diseases of the cardiovascular system – arrhythmias, heart attack, hypertension;
diseases of bronchopulmonary system – chronic bronchitis, pneumonia;
injuries, postoperative period.
This disorder often develops in individuals who cannot imagine their existence without work and, for this reason, do not sleep enough and deny themselves rest. This condition can develop during the initial period of internal diseases, for example, coronary disease and accompany it, being one of its manifestations (for example, in tuberculosis, ulcer disease and other chronic diseases), or find itself as a consequence of an acute illness (flu, pneumonia) that has ended.

Asthenia has characteristic symptoms, which are divided into three main groups:

Asthenia’s own manifestations;decay of strength
Disorders that cause the basis of the disease;
The patient’s psychological reaction to the asthenia itself.
The main signs of asthenia are generally considered to be:

Autonomic disorders. The development of asthenia almost always leads to BP spikes, increased pulse rate, heart irregularities, decreased appetite, headaches and dizziness, feelings of heat or vice versa chills throughout the body. Disorders of sexual function are also observed.
Fatigue. With asthenia fatigue does not disappear even after a long rest, it does not allow a person to concentrate on work, leads to absent-mindedness and a complete lack of desire for any activity. Even one’s own control and efforts don’t help a person to return to the necessary mode of life.
Sleep disturbance. With asthenia, the person cannot fall asleep for a long time, waking up in the middle of the night or waking up early. Sleep is restless and does not bring the necessary rest.
